How To Overcome Writer's Block

What is writer's block | The short meaning for writer's block is a condition where the writer loses their ability to continue their work, the creativity slowing down, and the idea got stuck. In the end, the writers feel dizzy hard to move forward.

If we look forward, there are many factors why writer's block happens, I will share the factor in generally based on my experience as a writer :

6 Factor Why Writer's Block Happens

  • Lack of Resources (references, content information, content element, etc...)
  • Stress (the Major factor that blocks the idea)
  • Perfectionism (there is no perfect draft, that's why we must edit our work later)
  • Condition (crowded space, noisy, etc...)
  • Lazy and Desperate ( writing is a journey you must face the challenge to keep forward right?)
  • Lack of Focus (inconsistent in writing, change the direction before finish the work before)
That's the six writer's block factor that I meet before. As a writer it is normal to have this block condition, every writer has felt the same, the difference is how persistent we are to come out of this bad condition.

Before we can overcome the writer's block, it would be good for us to do these following below:
  • Realize that we already trapped in writer's block: This aspect is important guys, because many writers deny when they stuck in this condition, our mind tries to resist this block, but that does not solve the problem. The best thing we can do is accept the condition and find the solution (I share the solution below)
  • Find the factor of the writer's block: External factors such as condition, no space to write, too busy, or the internal factors (lack of resources, not focus, to perfection, etc...)

How to Overcome Writer's Block

Now, I want to give some short solution how to overcome the writer's block, based on experience and discussion with the authors of course.

1. Find and set up the time before writing

Every writer has a different situation and condition, there is a writer who is more enjoy writing in the midnight, some of them feel free to write in the morning time. Figure it out your perfect time before start writing, it will give you extra energy and the idea much more easy to come out. The point is to find the right moment or build the moment itself.

2. Search References As Much As Possible

The more data we have, that makes the process easier and faster later. Search for the material in all resources, internet, forum discussion, social community groups, movie, books, that related to our works. It will add you with some valuable information, the perspective getting bigger, and makes the process more easy to come.

3. Relax For A While to Recharge Energy

Sometimes writer's block happens as a sign that we need to relax for a moment. There is no wrong to break a moment, try to refresh our mind first, so we can start again with full of energy. Try some vacation or go around with your friends. But don't get too long, remember there's still work to finish yet.

4. Mood Booster With The Favorite Music

Music can build up our mood, right? Sit back for a while and enjoy the instrument to fresh our mind, sometimes music can give us the spirit to keep writing forward. Make a list of the song that boosts up your mood, it will give you fresh energy later.

5. Take Time to Read Books

You need to keep the balance between writing and reading, writer's block can be a sign for us to stop writing and start to read something. It's okay to stop for a while don't push yourself to hard, by reading a book you can add more value, get others perspective, and build up your writing skills slowly but sure

Nowadays writing become more popular with the help of technology. Many platforms help the writer to show their works, but there is a problem beside a writer's block, and that is the creativity block. It looks same but different actually.

What is Creative Blocks

Creative Blocks much more specific than writer's block. It's the condition when we are stuck with the idea, lack of imagination, it looks like there is a huge wall that blocks the inspiration to our mind. We can finish our works but there is no soul doing that. That's because we are stuck in Creativity blocks.

Creative Blocks Solution

  • Try something new in your daily life (different activity, sport, try to do some new hobbies, etc)
  • Try another genre or try to combine it (it will add more creativity perspective for sure)
  • Explore the other creative things (art, photography, fashion, designer, etc)
  • Expand The Mindset (try to understand the differences, learn about the other's culture, etc)
  • Free your Mind (don't drift away with the stigma, opinions or perspectives of the people, but try to understand their point of view.)
That's the best solution to get rid of the creative blocks, to add more spirit I will share some creative quote that is really inspiring.
